Humanism
Humanist Canada is a not-for-profit organization that strives to create a fair and just society guided by critical thinking and compassion. Committed to putting Humanism into practice through ceremonies, outreach and education programs. Humanist Canada has the authority to train and certify Humanist Officiants to perform marriage ceremonies in Ontario.
Humanism is a set of values that emphasizes rationality, responsibility and the common good. It is a positive philosophy, confident that people can find meaning and fulfillment in this life without religion or superstition. Humanism values inclusivity, respect, integrity and ethics. Humanism celebrates our ability to reason, question and find answers through art, science and critical thinking. We all have the capacity to make the world a better place, and it is our responsibility to do so.
Humanist Officiants offer an alternative to traditional religious ceremonies, but also mark important circumstances for which ceremonies don’t usually exist. Significant moments; the blending of a family, the change of identity from one gender to another, divorce – all events that one may choose to observe in a public way.
